At Project Hawai‘i, Inc., we believe that every child deserves a chance to thrive, no matter their circumstances. Our outreach program is at the core of this mission, reaching out to Hawai‘i's most vulnerable population: homeless children. Every month, our dedicated team visits these keiki (children), delivering essential supplies, heartfelt support, and a consistent presence they can rely on. Many ask how we find these children or where are they exactly. We search the islands most remote areas across the beaches, in the mountains, under bridges and in the bushes. Yes, these children are hidden most of the time. We are the only outreach nonprofit that actually goes beyond what the eyes can see. #projecthawaiiinc #outreach #homelessinparadise #makingadifferece #heartfeltsupport
What We Do
Our outreach program serves homeless children across the islands by addressing their most pressing needs. Each monthly visit includes distributing food, hygiene supplies, clothing, and educational resources. But our efforts go beyond material support; we provide mentorship, build trust, and foster hope. These visits create a sense of stability and show the children that someone truly cares about their well-being and future.
In addition to meeting basic needs, we conduct interactive activities designed to nurture emotional, social, and academic growth. From STEM projects to art therapy and life skills workshops, every interaction is tailored to help these children build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
Without our continued visits we could not build the relationships it requires to actually take the children from their area to our field trips or away at camp for weeks on end. These children and families do become our family. We can build a lifetime connection that goes beyond a hand out.
Every month, our team travels to remote areas and homeless camps, reaching children who are often overlooked by society. Our outreach program provides:
Nutritious Meals: Ensuring children have the energy to learn and grow.
Educational Support: Supplies, books, and mentorship to encourage academic success.
Emotional Connection: One-on-one interactions that help children feel valued and heard.
Workshops and Activities: Programs that foster creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking.
Why Monthly Visits Matter
For children experiencing homelessness, consistency is a rare gift. Our monthly visits offer a lifeline of reliability and connection. Knowing that they can count on us provides these children with a sense of security and normalcy—something that is often missing in their daily lives.
The impact of these visits extends far beyond the moment. Regular interaction with our team helps children develop social skills, improve their behavior, and find motivation to succeed in school. By showing up month after month, we remind them that they matter and that their dreams are worth pursuing.
These visits allow them to know they will have what they need. They can ask for specific needs and we will deliver within a day or two. They know they can strive for more and sign up to participate in school based projects and we will be there for them.
Stories of Impact
One of our young girls age 10, shared how these visits have transformed her outlook: “I always feel happy when you come. It’s like someone really cares about me. I don’t feel invisible anymore.”
Another young boy in 4th grade who had originally dropped out of school and who struggled with behavioral challenges, expressed, “You taught me how to be brave and believe in myself. Now that I am at school and prepared, I try harder in school because I want to make you proud.”
Another recent comment at the back to school delivery is a tear jerker for the team member who was almost going to resign due to her overly busy life with children and building her own business... The team member in Puna stated when she arrived at her encampment location a little girl came running up to her. She yelled to her grandmother, "I told you she would come, she always comes, she will never forget about us. I know she will be sure we always have our things. I told you grandma, she always comes!!"
These stories are a testament to the profound difference our program makes. By consistently showing up for these children, we’re not just addressing their immediate needs; we’re planting seeds of hope that will grow for years to come. #impact #successstories #fromtheeyesofthehomeless #homelesscharityinhawaii #childrenscharity #givingback
How You Can Help
Our outreach program is powered by compassionate supporters who share our vision of a brighter future for Hawai‘i’s homeless children. Your contributions enable us to expand our reach, enhance our activities, and provide more resources for these keiki. Here’s how you can get involved:
Donate: Every dollar goes directly toward helping these children. Just $9 can provide a meal, $18. can provide a hygiene kit, while larger donations support critical programs and supplies. Making this contribution a monthly donation you not only give the child hope, you give us the stability we need to focus on our programs and not constantly fundraising for basic support.
Volunteer: Join our team and experience firsthand the joy of making a difference in a child’s life.
Spread the Word: Share our mission with friends and family to help us reach more people who care. #donate #give #givetohomeless #sponsorachild #monthlydonation #makeadifference #givingback #philanthropy #givetoday #charitygiving #donationstocharity
A Future of Hope
Through the outreach program, we’ve seen children who once felt hopeless become empowered to dream again. The social, behavioral, and academic improvements we witness reaffirm the importance of our work. These keiki are not just statistics; they are vibrant individuals with potential, and with your support, we can help them reach it.
Together, we can continue to break the cycle of poverty and build a future where every child has the opportunity to succeed. Let’s ensure that Hawai‘i’s homeless children never feel invisible again.
