Building Brighter Futures: Our Transitional Housing Project
This summer, Project Hawai‘i, Inc. proudly expanded our Transitional Housing Project with the addition of a new home on the Big Island. With three homes now on Hawai‘i Island and one on O‘ahu, we are able to provide more single mothers and their children with the gift of stability. For up to two years, families live in a safe and supportive environment that gives moms the time and tools they need to build a solid foundation for their future.
A Place to Call Home
Our transitional housing is more than a roof overhead—it’s a lifeline. Here, mothers can focus on securing more stable employment, furthering their education, and learning the everyday skills needed to manage a household. With stability, they are able to break free from the cycle of poverty and create brighter futures for their children.
This work is possible because of the generosity of our community. Supporters help furnish homes, provide essential household supplies, and even step in to cover basic needs like propane and electricity. Something as simple as a utility bill can make all the difference in helping a mom stay focused on her goals instead of falling back into crisis.
How Stability Transforms Children’s Lives
For the keiki, these homes are life-changing. With a stable and safe place to live, children no longer face the uncertainty of where they will sleep at night. This security allows them to grow, thrive, and excel in school. Teachers often share how much better the children perform academically once they have a consistent environment to do homework and a quiet place to rest.
Healthy meals also become part of everyday life. With access to kitchens and guidance on nutrition, moms can prepare meals that nourish both body and mind. Families sit together at the table, creating routines that foster connection and healing. Over time, mothers gain the confidence and skills to manage budgets, cook nutritious meals, and run their households with independence.
