The Christmas of Many Hearts

From the Eyes of a Child:

For many of the children attending, the Christmas Party is more than just a holiday gathering. They may have spent the year in uncertainty, facing days without the warmth of family traditions or the promise of special treats. But here, they are met with open arms and hearts, a place where their dreams of meeting Santa come true. Each carefully wrapped present they open becomes a tangible reminder of joy, possibility, and hope, something to carry with them beyond that one day. For some, it might be the first time they feel the magic of Christmas, where they belong, celebrated and loved, like any other child.

From a Parent's Perspective:

For a homeless parent, the Christmas Party represents a moment of respite, a day where they can see their children experiencing joy without worry. Surrounded by laughter and kindness, they find hope in knowing they are not alone on their journey. They witness a network of people caring for their children and creating memories that don’t feel overshadowed by hardship. Seeing the delight on their children's faces and knowing they are safe, if only for a few hours, renews their courage and strength.

From the Volunteer’s View:

Volunteers arrive at the Christmas Party with full hearts, eager to give back. For some, this is a time to share in the spirit of aloha, reflecting the deep love and care that binds the community. They arrive early, setting up decorations, wrapping presents, and ensuring every detail is perfect. They see firsthand the transformation in the children and parents who come through the doors—an impact that’s hard to describe but fills them with purpose. Each “Merry Christmas!” is more than a greeting; it’s a reminder of the importance of kindness and community.

From the Program Organizer's Perspective:

To those who run the Christmas Party, this day is the result of months of preparation and dedication. You see the day unfold like a symphony of joy, with every element carefully orchestrated. Each smile, every squeal of surprise, and the grateful hugs from parents are reminders of why you work tirelessly to make this event happen. For you, it’s a day to reaffirm Project Hawai’i, Inc.'s commitment to these families and to witness firsthand the deep, lasting impact of generosity and love.

This party embodies the heart of Project Hawai’i, Inc.—not just giving toys, but offering a moment of dignity, joy, and community. You see this event as an opportunity to uplift children and families, creating an environment where everyone can experience the magic of Christmas, regardless of their circumstances. Every shared laugh, every excited cheer, and each quiet, heartfelt “thank you” reaffirms your dedication to helping these children believe in themselves and in the kindness of others.

My View of the Christmas Party (Magin Patrick~ Co-Founder

What I witness at the Christmas Party each year is something few others will ever see. Many of these children arrive after hours of travel on public buses, often from remote areas. Some walk in the rain, while others secure rides from people they’ll later need to repay. Many arrive with just a diaper, no shoes, no warm clothing—shivering, drenched from the rain. For many, this will be their first time seeing Santa, receiving a gift with their name on it, or experiencing a table overflowing with food.

Some have never had the chance to decorate a sugar cookie or play a game where they are guaranteed to win a prize—something fun, or sometimes something essential. I watch as children come to me holding small toys they’ve won, asking if they can trade them for socks or soap. Others approach quietly, asking if they can take a bit of food home, knowing they may not eat tomorrow.

While others may see the joy and excitement these children feel in the moment, I see their survival mode. For tonight, they are in a place where they can feel secure, even if just for a few hours. We work hard to plan for the unexpected—making sure they have clothes to wear at the party, creating take-home food packages, and providing them with the hygiene supplies they need, so they don’t have to choose between a toy and a toothbrush.

This is what the Christmas Party is for me: a chance to help them experience a moment of safety and dignity, surrounded by people who care deeply for them.
