Aloha,

Thank you so much for your interest in helping to make these children have a wonderful holiday. Project Hawai'i, Inc. is a publicly supported nonprofit organization run 100% by volunteers. This is our 18th annual holiday event for the homeless children on the islands.

Our stocking stuffer program is truly part of the overall success of the holidays in keeping our keiki clean and healthy and still having fun over their long winter break. The sad fact is that these children will go days without food when school is closed. Sadly, they also go weeks without adequate mind stimulation. Couple this with the significant lack of nutrition, and the result is they will regress in their educational progress. Project Hawai'i Inc. works hard to avoid this by providing them with basic life needs to keep their minds active and tummies full.

Our stockings are filled with hygiene supplies, healthy snacks, and stimulating games, to keep their minds active and engaged. Gift cards for a hot meal and other basic needs serve as essential support for our unattended (on their own) homeless teens.

To participate we ask that the volunteers set up a collection and choose ONE item from the list to start. If you feel you can handle completing the need of TWO items, that is even better. In order to meet the needs of all the children and not have too many of one item and not enough of another, we do not wish to have random donations of items from the list.

WHO IS READY TO TAKE ON THE GREATEST CHALLENGE OF ALL?

Sponsoring our teens.. those who are forgotten and left out of the wonders of the holidays .... this is the most difficult age for us to get sponsors, and is actually the EASIEST one to do, mostly gift cards are needed!! We have over 130 homeless unsheltered teens living on the streets.

Here is the list of items needed:

  • Shampoo/Conditioner (not HOTEL size, this creates a huge amount of rubbish on our beaches, mahalo)

  • Pump Hand Soap

  • Flushable Wipes

  • Band-aides (small boxes to give each child one box)

  • Toothbrush

  • Toothpaste

  • Baby or Hand wipes (soft bag is preferred)

  • Color crayons AND book...the crayons are no good without something to draw on..

  • Decks of cards, or children card games, such as old maid, go fish, etc.

  • Bubbles

  • Individual hot wheels

  • Jump Ropes

  • Other small game/toy you might find to be useful for them (Stores will have .99cent bins, and those are fine, please just make sure you can do at least 24. Mahalo!)

OUR GIFT CARD NEEDS:

This is an essential part of the over all success for our keiki, especially the teens.

  • $10.00 gift cards for Walmart or Target (these are for the teens, so they can buy their personal hygiene needs, and undergarments)

  • $5.00 for Jamba Juice (when purchasing these cards, ask if they can give coupons, or "freebies" to go with the card, for example last year someone got buy one get one free for each card.)

  • $7.00 for Panda's Express, Mc Donald's, Taco Bell or Pizza Hut, KFC (all these are in walking area of the keiki)....(Don't forget to ask for "freebies", last year Mc Donald's gave a FREE premium sandwich coupon for each card purchased, that is like getting the cards for free, but will feed the children twice., and Panda's gave a FREE 3rd choice, so again provides more meal for the children)

  •

WISHES/DREAMS:

We are hoping to be able to take the teens on field trips for the holidays to a nearby attraction....but again just a dream if someone has connections or can get discount tickets etc...that would be awesome!

We were thinking to do 12-14 teens so, ANY amount of certificates are welcome!!

  • Kapolei Waterpark, or the Race Track

  • Teddy's Burgers (amazing how these children react to this place!!)

  • Pearl Ridge Mall Gift Certificates...we took them last year on a "shopping Spree", they LOVED IT!!!

  • Kapolei Movies (Consolidated Theater System, if purchasing gift cards, they have to be Consolidated) (They might give free popcorn or drinks with the gift card purchases)

  • Pizza Party at Pizza Hut

Thank you again for your concern towards our homeless keiki and their well-being.

We look forward to having you part of our team and please feel free to respond with any questions, concerns or comments.
